Two things to try before poring through logs: 1. Try running the installer in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Try running the installer as an Administrator.

But the USB system and drivers in the OS are getting better and the difference is getting smaller, perhaps to the point of being insignificant.
That's true on both Mac and Windows. I'm going to try my UM both ways when Windows 10 is released. To change your UM or UM to use Microsoft's or Apple's driver, see page 49 of the owners manual you can download it from Roland's site. I love the UM - one of the best interfaces ever made.
And because you can switch it to class compliant, I'm able to use it with my iPad - way cool. If they do not, the UM can still be used with Microsoft's driver.. I was reading this thread scratching my chin and wondering what the problem was Set to off they become class compliant devices.
This will probably come with some limitations but it's better than nothing I am curious if anyone noticed a difference in performance using the windows drivers? Bump, not sure if i missed this but have Roland said that they wont be doing Win 10 drivers for this?
Im using mine with the Microsoft driver, but im sure the Roland driver would give better performance. Im am now running my UMs in compatibility mode. It works but the port naming is a bit of a mess unfortunately. Two ports with the same name, ew, that's nasty!
Also unit 1 continues numbering on 2 and the seconds one on 11 why not 12? I know it is only an inconvenience but I hate having to hurt my head each time I need to figure out which hardware port maps to which software port.
With the Roland drivers each unit has its own name and the port numbers correspond with their real ports. Much nicer! I have tried everything to get the Windows 7 or 8 drivers installed in Windows 10 but nothing works. I still hope Roland will come up with Windows 10 drivers at some point. Please, Roland. Are you listening?
