Tha ks. Feb 10, 51 30 0 Ride e92 xi. To just do downpipes on an XI you shouldn't have to remove more than the subframe and motor mount bolts. You may need to pry a bit but it will eventually hang down a few inches which is enough. Make sure the motor is adequately supported obviously.
I used a lift from Harbor Freight, one of those across the fender ones. I've done it from below supported the engine with a jack and stands just not enough room. Steps 1. Raise the Car. If you choose to use jack stands, ensure they are compatible with the crazy BMW jack points. Let the car cool down before going under. Using the 8mm wrench, remove the lower engine cover there are 16 screws. You can optionally remove the next panel toward the rear of the car. I didn't remove it, and I only scratched my hand one time on it 4. The engine cover will easily slide right out one you have removed all the screws.
