I used a lift from Harbor Freight, one of those across the fender ones. I've done it from below supported the engine with a jack and stands just not enough room. There are detailed DIY's on other forums. Hjp New Member. Jun 26, 2 0 0. Greetings from Finland. I'm planning to do the dp upgrade in my xi. Why everybody is dropping the subframe when Bmw ista docs doesn't say anything about it when removing or installing dps? Remove guide joint from swivel bearing.

Remove wishbone from swivel bearing only Remove anti-roll bar link from spring strut Press output shaft out of wheel hub and tie up - Remove right bearing support - Remove oxygen sensors - remove both downpipes So is this wrong method and you have tried this way and its not working? NoQuarter Major. I would say this is the BMW method and the easier method is to lower the subframe and leave all that other stuff attached?

I just did my xi a couple weeks ago. You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads S. Replies 0 Views Vendor Marketplace Jul 23, [email protected]. Replies 8 Views N54 Nov 14, boost. Thanks to Mr. There is no rocket science here, but the limited space to work with, makes it a challenge. Every page will have steps and corresponding pictures at the end of each post.

Steps 1. Raise the Car. If you choose to use jack stands, ensure they are compatible with the crazy BMW jack points. Let the car cool down before going under. Using the 8mm wrench, remove the lower engine cover there are 16 screws. You can optionally remove the next panel toward the rear of the car. I didn't remove it, and I only scratched my hand one time on it 4. The engine cover will easily slide right out one you have removed all the screws.

Again, using the 8 mm wrench, remove the two small brackets — not required, but less chance of scraping your face or hands on them. Attached Images. Appreciate 3. Getting Access 6. Using a 10 mm wrench, remove the hose mount which attaches to the passenger's side of the steering rack this makes getting access to the nut on the top of the steering rack easier and generally provides better access.

Remove the passenger's side nut and bolt completely. Using the T25 Torx driver, remove the first heat shield bolt, located right next to the passenger's steering rack boot 9. Pivot the steering rack toward the front of the car as far as it will go - about 1 inch. Using the T25 Torx driver, and short handle socket, remove the second and third bolts. For reference, the picture shows the driver bit in one of the bolts.

Heat shield removed. Appreciate 4. Removing the downpipes. Mark the O2 sensors. Picture shows the front sensors, mark the rear as well. Using the 13mm wrench, loosen the clamp connections for both downpipes. Remove the bolts and set them aside. Moving to the rear of the car, spray the bolts attached to the cat-back generously with liquid wrench or WD Use a 12mm wrench to remove all 4 bolts.

Moving further back, I found it much easier to uninstall the DP's by removing the muffler brace. Use the E10 Torx socket Using the 12mm socket, remove the nuts on the hanger for both DP's. Notice the rear O2 sensors still installed. Install the new DP's Comparison shot of the old and new. Take both clamp connectors and loosely place them on the turbos Inset the smaller of the bolts included in the kit into the hole and hand tighten the nut.
